Chief of Staff

This Chief of Staff, working closely with our executive leadership team, will oversee strategic business initiatives and organizational improvements from development through successful execution, under the guidance of the President and Co-CEOs. This role will also serve as a direct representative of the executive leadership team in internal and external engagements. The ideal candidate will have proven success in an operational management role, with a focus on advising executive-level decision makers. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership Team Coordination: Maintain oversight of and help to execute on all firm-wide management, operational, and strategy items in coordination with the President, Co-CEOs, and Chief People Officer. This includes driving the execution of strategies and tasks of the firm’s leadership team and communicating objectives to the firm, among other responsibilities.
  • Business Development Process: Work closely with the President on all aspects of the firm’s business development process. This includes supporting the operational elements of the process, assisting with relevant documentation and materials, and participating in conversations with clients and potential clients.
  • Day-to-Day Operations: Manage and lead on a variety of business operations functions, including related to firm-wide processes, technology and resources, media engagements, event coordination, and the firm’s global footprint.
  • Strategic Planning and Special Projects: Drive strategic planning conversations on such items as resource requirements, internal capabilities, and process improvements to set up the firm for continued success over the longer-term.

 Key Skills for the Chief of Staff position

China Practice Fellow

The Cohen Group’s China Practice is seeking fellowship candidates to join our China Practice, working with global companies to navigate the increasingly complicated intersection between business and government. The Fellowship is a one-year, full-time, paid program with benefits including health insurance. This position may lead to a permanent job within the firm upon excellent performance.

Position Location

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (e.g., MA), or equivalent practical experience, in relevant field including Asian studies, international affairs, or political science. 
  • Business-level proficiency in Mandarin Chinese. Ability to conduct open-source research in Chinese. 
  • Experience living or studying in Greater China is a plus, but not required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supporting and leading primary open-source research and developing written products to provide clients with an understanding of how economic, political, and regulatory trends impact their global business. 
  • Conducting working-level outreach to relevant stakeholders in support of clients and in response to requests regarding their strategic decisions and day-to-day operations. 
  • Developing creative ideas to support team members and advise clients on deliverables, including but not limited to political, economic, and regulatory risk factors that impact business interests in China, as well as markets around the world. 
  • Developing comprehensive qualitative and quantitative briefing materials for clients, including packaging market analysis, stakeholder mapping, engagement strategies, and regulatory developments in visually appealing ways using Microsoft Office programs. 
  • Tracking and providing analysis of major news developments and broader geopolitical trends for clients.

Client Team Lead

The Cohen Group is accepting applications to join our firm at the Team Lead level. The roles and responsibilities of Team Leads — typically Vice Presidents or Associate Vice Presidents at the firm — vary by client team depending on the size of the team and scope of our support to the client. Team Leads also play an important role as leaders within the firm, work closely with Cohen Group Senior Counselors to deliver value for our clients, and support the growth and development of more junior colleagues. The following categories offer a general description of the scope of responsibilities of a Team Lead:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced degree and at least 10–15 years of practical experience in relevant field such as international affairs and public policy.
  • Must have an interest in problem-solving across a variety of sectors and issues, including but not limited to defense, aerospace, healthcare, technology, industrial manufacturing, energy and resources, infrastructure and real estate, financial services, and communications.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop work plans to set and accomplish strategic direction for each client team and ensure the team is providing support on a daily basis in line with the client’s objectives.
  • Build tailored and creative work products and briefings to advise clients on political, economic, and regulatory risk factors that impact business interests in markets around the world. 
  • Assign, supervise, and manage the work of the internal client team, including developing a vision for client products, assigning responsibilities and monitoring tasks, reviewing and evaluating work, and delivering products and briefing material to the client, among others. 
  • Learn the important details of new issues quickly and become knowledgeable and credible with clients, including developing expertise on highly technical topics as relevant and required for certain clients.
  • Identify, research, and track relevant topics/areas of interest (geopolitical developments, sectoral updates, policy issues, etc.) for both current and prospective clients.
  • Serve as primary day-to-day point of contact with clients, including coordinating follow-up actions, providing progress updates, and sharing relevant information with clients and colleagues. 
  • Actively engage with and leverage Cohen Group Senior Counselors’ insights, experience, networks, and guidance in support of the client’s objectives.
  • Travel domestically and internationally to client sites, major conferences and trade shows, meetings with government and industry stakeholders, etc. in support or on behalf of clients and Cohen Group senior leadership.

Internship Program

The Cohen Group runs a 10-week summer internship program each year, primarily geared towards rising college seniors and recent college graduates.

Our summer interns are valued contributors to the work for our clients. Specific job responsibilities include supporting and leading primary research and analysis, developing written products for clients, and engaging in and supporting client meetings. The Cohen Group also emphasizes professional development opportunities, and our interns interact directly with current and former industry, government, media, and international figures over the course of the internship through an annual summer leadership speaker series.

The program will run from Monday, June 9 to Friday, August 15, 2025. Interns must be located in the DC Metro area for the duration of the summer internship program.
