Mr. Dave Rank is a Senior Advisor at The Cohen Group and head of the firm’s China Practice. He spent 27 years as a State Department Foreign Service Officer prior to joining The Cohen Group, including six assignments in greater China (including Beijing, Shanghai, and the American Institute in Taiwan). His final position was as Deputy Chief of Mission and Charge’ d’Affaires) at the US Embassy in Beijing.

Mr. Rank also served in Washington and at the US embassies in Kabul, Athens, and Port Louis (Mauritius). In 2015, he received the State Department’s Distinguished Honor Award for his role in the release of the only American servicemember held by the enemy in Afghanistan. 

Mr. Rank is a Senior Fellow at Indiana University’s Hamilton Lugar School of International and Global Affairs and has also taught at Yale University, Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Wisconsin. He speaks Mandarin Chinese, French, Dari, and Greek.
