The Cohen Group is seeking fellowship candidates to join our firm, working with our team to provide strategic advice and practical assistance to our clients on business development, market entry, regulatory affairs, and other areas where business objectives intersect with policy and regulatory frameworks. The fellowship is a full-time, paid program with benefits including health insurance. This position has often led to permanent jobs within the firm upon excellent performance.
Position Location
- This position is based in Washington, DC.
Minimum Qualifications
- Highly motivated, with strong speaking, research, and writing skills.
- Demonstrated emotional intelligence and proven ability to work collaboratively on a team.
- Must have an interest in problem-solving across a variety of sectors and issues, including but not limited to defense and aerospace, critical and emerging technology, communications and IT, industrial manufacturing, energy and resources, infrastructure, real estate, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals.
- Must be willing and able to enthusiastically contribute to both regional-specific client work and work on all other geographies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (e.g., Master’s-level) or 2–3 years of practical experience in relevant field such as international affairs.
- For candidates who speak additional languages, must have native or strong professional fluency, including strong writing and reading skills as well as listening and speaking skills.
Please note that priorities are being placed on fellowship applicants with the following background and qualifications
- Master’s in security studies or equivalent degree focused on defense issues
- U.S. military or government service, or prior experience in the aerospace & defense industry
- Demonstrated professional experience working on defense issues
- Demonstrated interest in national security, defense, and emerging technologies with defense applications
- Demonstrated understanding of direct with:
- U.S. defense budget, acquisition, and requirements processes, including but not limited to:
- U.S. defense ecosystem (organizational structures, key stakeholders, decision-making within program executive offices, key military capabilities, the requirements process, defense acquisition lifecycle, etc.)
- Foreign Military Sales and security cooperation activities
- Key congressional committees responsible for defense policy and appropriations
- U.S. defense budget, acquisition, and requirements processes, including but not limited to:
Job Responsibilities
- Supporting and leading primary open-source research and developing written products to provide clients with an understanding of how economic, political, and regulatory trends impact their global business.
- Conducting outreach to relevant stakeholders in support of clients and in response to requests regarding their strategic decisions and day-to-day operations.
- Building and implementing creative plans to advise clients on political, economic, and regulatory risk factors that impact business interests in markets around the world.
- Developing comprehensive qualitative and quantitative briefing materials for clients, including packaging market analysis, engagement strategies, and regulatory developments in visually appealing ways using PowerPoint or Microsoft Word.
- Tracking and providing analysis of major news developments and broader geopolitical trends for clients.
- Attending and reporting on events and webinars relevant to client interests.
Compensation varies and is commensurate with skills and experience level.
Base salary (US-based Fellows): $80,000/year – $95,000/year
