General Tim Radford to Join The Cohen Group

General (Ret’d) Sir Tim Radford KCB DSO OBE will join The Cohen Group as a Senior Counselor on April 10 after 40 years in the British Army, the firm announced today.

“We are thrilled that General Tim Radford is joining The Cohen Group. He is a leader whose career of stellar service was marked by outstanding courage, judgment, valor, and character,” said former Defense Secretary Bill Cohen, Chairman of The Cohen Group.

General Radford served as NATO’s Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (DSACEUR) from 2020 to 2023 during a complex and pivotal time for the Alliance and the world. In this role, he led the design and successful implementation of NATO’s new military concept for Deterrence and Defence of the Euro-Atlantic Area through the creation of a new military strategic plan, the redesign of the new NATO Force Model, and the revision of its military Command and Control.

General Radford commanded troops at all levels during his 40-year military career, including over 11 years on operations. Prior to his NATO role, he commanded more than 10,000 British, Danish, and Estonian Forces in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province in 2009. He went on to serve as the Chief of Staff of NATO’s Multinational Corps Headquarters in 2012–2013, and as the Deputy Coalition Commander in Kabul 2015–2016. In addition, he was Assistant Director United Kingdom Special Forces in London, the Head of Overseas Operations in the Ministry of Defense, and commanded a British Division comprising 40,000 soldiers in 13 separate Brigades. Throughout his career, whether in command or at staff, General Radford has continually led organizational and cultural change within the British Army, the UK Ministry of Defence, and at NATO.

In Toby Harnden’s book Dead Men Risen: The Welsh Guards and the Real Story of Britain’s War in Afghanistan, he described General Radford during his time as a Brigade commander as “a softly spoken, cerebral officer, with an understated manner honed during years of operations in Northern Ireland and Iraq…a listener rather than a talker. His thoughtful, considered approach, was underpinned by great compassion.”

General Radford will join a distinguished group of senior leaders at The Cohen Group who provide strategic guidance and assistance to the firm’s clients, including:

  • General Joseph Ralston, former NATO Supreme Allied Commander and former Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff;
  • Ambassador Marc Grossman, former U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, and former U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan and a Career Ambassador;
