Protecting our homeland - while also helping our allies and friends protect themselves - is a priority for government, business and individual citizens.
The challenge is immense: we must protect our success, our values and our future against a determined enemy. We will prevail. But winning will take new ways of thinking and new ways of acting, including public-private partnerships. Federal, state and local governments will need to focus the creativity and innovation of the private sector.

Secretary William Cohen's commitment to homeland security stretches throughout his career. In 1999, as Defense Secretary, he established new organizations and military units to prepare the military's vast capabilities to aid state and local governments in the event of terrorist attacks against US cities.
And TCG has a special strength in the homeland security area with Admiral James Loy's involvement at TCG as Senior Advisor. Admiral Loy's connection to securing the US homeland spans decades. His 40-plus years in uniform culminated in his service as Commandant of the US Coast Guard; he has a lifetime of perspective on the issues around protecting the United States. As Commandant, he contributed to the early decisions after 9-11 and then, as the first Administrator of the Transport Security Administration and then Deputy Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security led US efforts in homeland defense. Secretary Cohen and Admiral Loy are joined by Paul Gebhard, James Bodner, and HK Park, a talented team of professionals who have experience in a broad range of disciplines including law enforcement, military support to civil authorities, maritime and port security, and biotechnology.
